Invasive Species Task Force

Have you ever worried about the Oriental Bittersweet damaging the trees in the park? How about Burning Bush, Honeysuckle, Barberry, Multiflora Rose, Japanese Knotweed, Garlic Mustard, and Buckthorn? The Park staff cannot do it alone and the Friends of Saratoga Spa State Park want to help. Will you take action and join us by filling out this form about your availability?

Our Mission: To increase the impact of methods employed by the Regional Stewardship Technicians from the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation by providing a consistent and concentrated effort to mitigate the spread of invasive plants in areas of concern throughout the park, starting with the most ecologically important sections as defined by them.

We know this isn’t a one and done process, and offer weekly group sessions depending on weather conditions and the ability to work on your own after attending an orientation session with a trained team member and following the procedures outlined in our Invasive Species Task Force Procedures.

Suggested Tools to bring are:

  • Hand pruners
  • Long handled pruners
  • Loppers
  • Hand saw
  • Gloves
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Tick and sun protection
